Does my toddler have to stay in the stroller for the whole class?

The short answer: Yes.

The Why:

"The million dollar question. Why do the kids have to stay in the stroller during Stroller Strides? Why can't we just let the kiddos run around and play beside us while we try to work out? That way we don't have to deal with them being grumpy. Well, let me ask you this: how much do you normally get done when your toddler is running around underfoot?

I'm guessing 4 out of 5 of have visions of your darling angel running off, getting into everything, and raising just a little bit of hell (to that 5th mom: I salute you!). It's not exactly easy to get stuff done with a kid under foot, and if you've been to a Stroller Strides class you know that we keep things MOVING. If you haven't, you should! Anyhoo, we're a traveling format, meaning that we move from station to station. When we're only in one place for 7 or 8 minutes at a time, dealing with getting kids in and out of the stroller is a total drain on your workout time.

But practicality aside, the biggest reason why we keep kids in those strollers is safety. When we work out, even with the minimal equipment that we use, we always need to be concerned with safety. Bands can snap, a kid could get clipped running underfoot, or even a mom could trip over an errant little one. I was once in a class where a mom let her 18 month old run around, and as I was lunging her kid tripped on my foot and took a header. I know that you have wonderful children, but they're also kids and it's totally normal for them to get into stuff when they're loose - which is why we buckle them up.

Lady, I get it. It can be hard dealing with a kid that doesn't want to sit still. But you know what? That's okay. You are worth this hour. An hour where you work hard and build up and honest sweat. An hour where no one is touching you. And we are there for you. We've been there with the grouchy kids, we've had those days, and we will help you. You'll be amazed at how well kids do once you give them a little bit of time and consistency. Trust me, it's worth it!"

What if I am enrolled and didn't make it to class?

Class attendance is recorded by the instructor at each class, and even if you enrolled, unless you are present you will not be counted. This means that if you are a class pass holder, you will not be charged for that class.

Loving what I've read, how do I get started?

Click on the "Sign In/Sign Up" tab to create an account and enroll in a free class of your choice.

If you have not enrolled prior to class or signed the class waiver electronically, you will be able to do so on location or before class.

What do we do in the winter?

We move our workout indoors for the winter. On nice days we might still do some small portions of our workout outdoors though.

What if the weather is bad?

We will only cancel outdoor classes in extreme weather conditions. We try to follow TBA School closings , but sometimes we still have class even if TBA schools are closed. Please check your email and our Facebook page for weather related schedule changes.

What if my baby gets fussy during class?

Our first priority during Stroller Strides classes is the happiness of your baby. Tend to your baby first. We stop every few minutes for a new station, so you can always catch up with us if you get behind, let the instructor know if you have to stop and she will let you know where the group is going next! Our instructors will do their very best to make the class enjoyable for both you and your baby. We sing to the babies and we keep the strollers moving to have a change of scenery for the little ones.

When can I start taking classes?

Always obtain your physician's approval before beginning any exercise routine. We recommend waiting until your baby is at least 6 weeks of age and you have clearance from your physician to begin Stroller Strides classes. Children are welcome up to any age as long as they still enjoy a ride in the stroller.

How long are the Stroller Strides workouts?

The workouts are one hour unless otherwise noted. The class is usually set up with a 5 minute warm up followed by a 45 minute full body workout with the stroller that includes power walking or running, cardio blasts and body toning stations. The last ten minutes is for abs and stretching.

Do I need a jogging stroller?

No! While we are BOB jogger fanatics, just about any stroller will do so long as it's not prone to tipping. We do not recommend umbrella strollers since they are not very maneuverable. Our mommies have mastered classes with snap-n-gos and other travel systems!

What do I need to bring to class?

Other than you, your baby and your stroller....

We recommend athletic shoes, a towel or mat for our ground exercises and plenty of water. For outdoor classes, please bring a hat and/or sunblock. Don't forget to pack baby some snacks and/or small toys for the ride, too!

Can I join Stroller Strides if I am pregnant?

YES, YES, YES! WE encourage expectant moms to continue to exercise through their pregnancy as long as everything has been approved by their physician. Instructors are trained in both pre and post natal fitness and follow the ACOG guidelines. We can modify any exercise that poses an issue as you progress through your pregnancy.

Exercise during pregnancy helps improve or increase:

* Cardiovascular fitness

* Muscular strength/endurance

* Energy levels

* Higher fatigue threshold

* Posture and biomechanics

* Circulation

* Self-esteem, sense of well-being

* Recovery time

Is this just an exercise group of moms that get together to walk?

We love this question - the answer is NO! These classes are no walk in the park. In just one hour you will get a complete head to toe workout that will have you feeling energized and looking fit. Classes are designed for ALL different fitness levels and are taught by certified instructors who are also moms. During our stations we use resistance bands, open fields for drills or obstacles, benches or steps, and anything in the environment to give you a great workout. Don't be surprised if you find yourself using words like "burpee" or "plank" in every day conversation before long!
